Schools Library Donations

Park Mead cheque March2020Every year, Cranleigh Rotary donates hundreds of pounds to help local primary schools to improve their libraries.

In the past, some schools have opted to receive donations of Usborne Illustrated Dictionaries, rather than a financial grant, but this year all of the local schools have chosen to receive a lump sum which they can then decide how best to use to boost their libraries.

This year, the first Cranleigh school to be presented with a cheque for £500 was Park Mead Primary School. Rotarian Andy Kolmar was delighted to hand over the cheque to headteacher Neil McAuliffe in front of the students (photo above).

Early in the autumn term, Andy visited the other schools to make donations of £500 each to purchase books for their libraries.

The photographs below show, in order, the head teachers receiving their cheques: Natalie McCarthy of Cuthbert Mayne; Lisa Walmsley of Ewhurst Primary and Gill Leadbetter-Sims of Cranleigh C of E school.

The money was raised from the Santa Dash, which took place at the end of 2019 and in which several school pupils participated.
