Rotary Collection For Ukraine
Members of Cranleigh Rotary took part in a street collection for Ukraine refugees from Thursday 10th to Saturday 12th March. This was part of a much wider effort by Rotary Clubs in the UK and across the world to support Ukraine in its struggle against the invading Russian army.
The collection had been set up at very short notice and we are grateful to Waverley Borough Council for giving permission so rapidly. 19 of our club members, associates and business partners took part.
The bulk of the money will be paid into Rotary District 1145’s Special Account, from which it will be transferred to those Rotary clubs in the countries bordering Ukraine who are already helping to receive and accommodate many thousands of refugees from the war zones.
"We were impressed by how generous people were and how everyone was touched by the pictures on our televisions of this dreadful war. Thanks also to all who took part for their hard work and patience in achieving this spectacular result," said John Greenwood, chairman of the Club's International Committee.
District 1145 Update: As of 30 March, donations from Clubs to the District Ukraine Crisis Fund topped £100,000. What an achievement! This was reached in 3 weeks due to your great efforts. Thank you.
