New! Great Model Railway Exhibition, September 2019

Cranleigh Rotary's 50th anniversary year is being celebrated by a number of major50th anniv logo public events and fundraising activities.

The next event will be the Festival of Model Railways, which will take place on Saturday, 21 September, 10 am - 5 pm. The exhibits will be on display along Village Way and inside the Village Hall, Guide HQ and the Band Room.

The festival promises to be particularly memorable, with some 20 layouts provided by Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire Model Railway Clubs. In particular, this may be the last chance to see the actual layout of the old Cranleigh station and outbuildings, which will definitely attract a lot of interest. Outside there will be stalls to browse and, hopefully, a static steam engine in operation.

To add to the excitement, there will be a layout for all to actually ‘drive’ (usually aimed at the younger participants).

Another layout, being assembled in the day - which will have a value of at least £250 - will be raffled and won by one lucky person at the end of the festival. Raffle tickets are available at £1 each, in advance, at Celebration Cakes, the local Scouts and Oakwood Business Consultants.

If this wasn’t enough, there will be refreshments available in the Village Hall and the Band Room, the opportunity to vote for your favourite layout of the day and a photo competition to enter as well. Take an interesting photo at the exhibition, upload it to by 5 October, and if you win, your photo will be printed and framed professionally by Frames Are Us.

The entrance fee will be £6 for adults and £2 for children. All profits will be donated to CHASE Children's Hospice near Guildford.

More information can be obtained from the organiser, Rotarian Tom Cornwell, at Celebration Cakes on the High Street in Cranleigh, or from Jane Briggs at Oakwood Business Consultant (phone 01483 276100 or email;
