Heroes In Space Talk

Cranleigh Rotarian and science author Peter Bond gave an illustrated talk to the Cranleigh U3A on 25 July, entitled "Heroes In Space".

Peter is a local, award-winning author who has given many talks over the years about topics related to space exploration and astronomy. He was previously a consultant and writer for the European Space Agency, and a press officer for the Royal Astronomical Society.

The illustrated talk included the following topics:

What is an astronaut?
How do you become an astronaut?
Ups and downs - how to reach space and return home.
Food and drink.
How do you go to the toilet in space? (The perennial favourite!)
Hygiene (washing, hair care etc.)
Work and leisure.
Walking in space.
Life on the Moon and Mars.
Disasters and deaths.

Peter is presenting his fee for the talk to Cranleigh Rotary's Charity Fund.
