Model Railway Festival

2012 Railway Festival posterMore than 1,000 visitors flocked to see the Festival of Model Railways, held by the Rotary Club of Cranleigh, on 22 September 2012. Organised by Rotarians Tom Cornwell and Brian Vine, the event included dozens of exhibits and stalls located in the Village Hall, the Band Room, and the Guide and Scout Headquarters in Village Way. A special attraction was a model showing the layout of the old Cranleigh railway station before its closure.

Tom and Peter Selby from the Crawley Model Railway Club were selected as the winners of the “Best in the Show” award for their layout entitled “Wellbridge”. The Festival raised £1,200 for the Shooting Star CHASE Children’s Hospice Trust.

“The programme was excellent and we had so many displays that it was difficult to get them all in,” said Jane  O‘Leary, President of the Cranleigh Rotary Club. “It was a great day and we are delighted to have raised a substantial sum for Shooting Star CHASE. We are also very grateful for the assistance of all the venue owners.”
