Stroke Awareness Day: 17 April 2010

Stroke Awareness DayEach year, Rotarians across the UK contribute towards the health of their local communities by participating in Stroke Awareness Day. On 17 April 2010, Cranleigh Rotarians were out in force in the High Street during the morning, encouraging as many people as possible to have their blood pressure checked.

On hand to provide free blood pressure tests and advice were two volunteer nurses from the CHASE hospice, Angela Tiernan and Karen Clarke. A total of 65 people took advantage of this opportunity, some of whom were recommended to see their GP to undergo further checks. and many others were given literature explaining the importance of stroke awareness.

Stroke Awareness DayWe are pleased to make available this extremely important service to the local community," said Rotarian David Gill. “Many people have been able to benefit from this free initiative, receiving checks and advice which may prevent strokes and even save their lives.

"Once again, we would like to express our gratitude to Boots the Chemist and Cranfold Physical Therapy Centre in Cranleigh High Street for the use of their premises."
