Festival of Model Railways 2009

5 September 2009 was a day to remember for railway enthusiasts – young and not so young. The Festival of Model railways, organised by the Rotary Club of Cranleigh, was a runaway success, with more than 1,000 people coming form far and wide to see and admire 40 exhibits and stalls. Some of the exhibitors had travelled for as far afield as Cornwall to take part.

The Festival was the brainchild of Rotarian Tom Cornwell, himself a keen model railway enthusiast. The weather was wonderful, and the event easily surpassed the Club’s previous model railway event, held in 2004.

As a result of the Festival of Model Railways, the Rotary Club of Cranleigh was able to hand over a cheque for £2,000 to CHASE, the local children’s hospice. Club President Michael Hart, along with Tom Cornwell and David Gill, were on hand to present the cheque to Melanie Hill, the Community Fundraising Manager for CHASE.
